Career & Academic Preparation Program

High School Equivalency Preparation

Every year, a number of students do not graduate from high school for reasons as unique as the individuals themselves. Without a high school diploma, career options become greatly limited.

Whether students last attended school recently or many years ago, our program offers free classes to help them earn a high school equivalency credential. Standardized assessments and one-on-one advising determine the areas students need to work on and place them in appropriate classes.

Students receive instruction in the five test subject areas:

  • Language Arts/Reading
  • Language Arts/Writing
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years old and complete enrollment and testing before starting a preparation course. Students aged 16 and 17 must provide a letter of withdrawal from their last school attended and obtain parental consent prior to enrollment.

The CAP Program has in-person, online, and self-guided classes that prepare students to take either the GED or HiSET exam. Both of these approved tests allow Nevada students to earn the Nevada State Certificate of High School Equivalency.

To request more information about our preparation class options, please call us at (775) 445-4452 or e-mail us at accel@wnc.edu. To register for HSE preparation classes, complete our .
