These classes are ideal for those facing work-life obstacles, our classes empower you to manage your time effectively, creating a balance between education and life's demands.
Your life is at the forefront of these changes. Our courses are designed to be flexible, allowing you to tailor your learning around your work, family, and personal commitments.
"I hope students use this flexibility to reduce the stress in their lives. They don't have to worry about missing assignments if something comes up in their personal life, so I hope that helps them relax about their education. I also hope they take risks in my class. Use the flexibility to try new things on writing assignments that they potentially couldn't do in a more structured course. Risk is the catalyst for a thrilling learning experience."
Flexible Learning: Definition
Flexible learning courses vary in structure, with options like completely self-paced, guided self-paced, and instructor directed pacing. The flexibility extends to the course duration, ranging from 16 to 8 weeks or less*, providing students with choices that align with their lifestyle while emphasizing the importance of dedication and consistent time management for effective instruction. Similar to standard 16 week courses, flexible learning courses require regular and substantive instructor and student interaction/ communication during the duration of the course.
* All courses 8 weeks and less are automatically designated as flexible learning courses regardless of course pacing.
Flexible Learning Course Pacing Designations
A self-paced course allows students to have the freedom to progress through the material at their own individual speed within the defined semester dates. Students can determine when and how quickly they move through the content, allowing them to tailor their learning experience to their own preferences and schedule. This approach is designed to accommodate different lifestyles, and allows individuals to take the time they need to thoroughly understand and master the material.
For example, if the Spring semester ends on May 18th, then all assignments must be completed by May 18th, but no hard deadlines will be assigned before then meaning students will not be marked 鈥渓ate鈥 on any assignment.
In an instructor-defined pace course, the instructor sets the speed and schedule at which students progress through the material. This format often includes specific deadlines for assignments, assessments, and other course activities, providing a more structured and synchronized learning experience. Students are expected to follow the established pace and complete tasks according to the instructor's timeline.
For example, assignments will be given hard deadlines and late work may not be accepted. Additionally, attendance may be mandatory.
A guided self-paced course allows students to progress through the material at their own speed while receiving support and guidance from instructional resources provided by the course. Students have the flexibility to set their own schedule, however, the course may include structured guidance such as periodic check-ins, periodic assessments, minimal pacing, and optional lectures to ensure learners stay on track. These courses combine the benefits of self-directed study with the support and structure to assist in the successful comprehension and completion of the course.
For example, a course might have a posted class date in the schedule but attendance is optional, or there might be assessments every fourth week that must be completed on time or early and will not be accepted late.
