Nursing Student Earns Regents Scholar Award

Payten Rose

ÌÇÐÄvlog nursing student Payten Rose realized at an early age that she wanted to be part of the medical profession.
I have always had a very caring personality and I have always been drawn to helping people, Rose said.
She is well on her way to joining those who have cared for her and her mother at various times throughout their lives.
Rose was recently selected as the 2020 Regents Scholar Award recipient for ÌÇÐÄvlog. As a Regents Scholar Award winner, Rose receives $5,000. One student from each Nevada System of Higher Education institution is selected for the award based on their academic achievements, service contributions and leadership.
The scholarship award will help Rose further her education after graduating from ÌÇÐÄvlogs associate degree program this spring.
Receiving the Regents Scholar Award means a great deal to me personally, Rose said. Not only is it great to be recognized for hard work and achievements, but it will also go a long way in helping me to pay for my continuing of education. I am still weighing my options for educational programs after graduation, but wherever I choose to go I know that this award and ÌÇÐÄvlog will be helping me get there!
Rose has personally witnessed the difference people in the medical profession can make.
I have seen firsthand what a difference positive and caring medical professionals can make in a persons life and I hope to bring that knowledge into my daily practice, Rose said. Ive dealt with various medical diagnoses from a young age, but my mom has struggled with her health her entire life.
Rose has a major focus on philanthropy and community service and frequently volunteers to help Renos homeless and foster youth populations. Payten works as a nurse apprentice at Carson Tahoe Hospital and is currently secretary of ÌÇÐÄvlogs National Student Nurses Association, and is a member of the Nevada Nurses Association, Nevada Nurses Foundation, and Nevada Student Nurses Association.
The start of Roses nursing career hinges on passing the NCLEX exam following graduation, then she will begin work as a registered nurse while pursuing additional educational training.
I hope to obtain a Masters in Nursing and return to ÌÇÐÄvlog in the future to join the nursing program as a professor, Rose said.
