Mike Thomas presentations scheduled in August have been rescheduled for this month at Jack C. Davis Observatory on ÌÇÐÄvlogs Carson City campus.
As part of his lecture series, Thomas is scheduled to talk about the thieves of the sea Pirates on Friday, Sept. 16, followed by a presentation on Apollo 13 on Saturday, Sept. 17.
In his Pirates presentation, Thomas will focus on the people and events of piracy, from its ancient origins to the activities of today.
The weekend of lectures will conclude with Thomas discussing how Apollo 13 captured the worlds attention in 1970 when three astronauts incredibly survived an aborted moon mission in their crippled spacecraft.
Both presentations are free and begin at 7:30 p.m. Doors to JCDO open at 7 p.m.
Jack C. Davis Observatory is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave., overlooking ÌÇÐÄvlogs Carson City campus.
The public is reminded that each Saturday night, the observatory hosts Star Parties from sundown to 11 p.m. Attendees receive guided viewing of the moon, stars and planets via interior and exterior telescopes. Located on the eastern edge of the Sierra, JCDO is ideally located and equipped to provide information and viewing that will inspire more learning about the universe.
