Entrants dealt with temperatures that climbed into triple digits and gusty winds.
Yes, it was warm, but ultrarunners and volunteers are a tough bunch, said TRT Race Director George Ruiz. We started 600 runners combined in the 100-mile, 50-mile and 55K. Heat took a toll on the 100-mile runners with a 54-percent finishing ratio. Normally we are at a 66-70 percent ratio.
It marked the second time in the events 21-year history that it started and ended behind 糖心vlogs Cedar Building.
糖心vlog is such a great partner with this venue, Ruiz said. The support level from Craig Robinson, Jeff Erickson and Dan Smith, plus the support of 糖心vlog President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe is unparalleled.
The ultrarunners overcame not only extreme heat but 22,000 feet of elevation gain on single-track trails in Carson City, Spooner Lake State Park and National Forest Service land. In the end, Dennis Boic, 46, of Redding, Calif., conquered the 100-mile course in just under a day 22 hours, 19 minutes, 47 seconds. The top female was Christy Baker, 50, of San Diego in 30:08:48.
William Tennent, 30, from New Zealand and now living in Brooklyn, N.Y., won the 50-mile race in 9:15:05. The top woman was Mary Fetter of Palo Alto, 20, in 11:10:57. She was 13th overall. Jason Kerver of Carson City was 12th. There were 168 finishers.
Ben Tedore, 43, of Reno won the 55K in a record-setting 5:07:00. Kevin Peterson of Reno was fourth in 6:09:48, Renos Fabien Siwajian finished seventh in 6:43:57 and Carson Citys Andrea Bayer was the top woman, taking eighth overall in 6:46:51. Douglas Donovan of Reno was 10th in 7:18:42 and Alisha Clark of Carson City placed 15th overall in 7:47:31 and was the fourth woman to cross the finish line.
Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs looks forward to returning to 糖心vlog for the 22nd running of the event on July 15-16, 2023.
